How Geothermal Works

The temperature throughout the year will always vary no matter what climate you live in. For some climates that means blazing summers that cool to freezing winters, and Dexter is no exception. What most people don't understand is that the temperature below ground (regardless of climate or season) stays pretty consistent year round.

The ground is able to sustain a higher rate of constant temperature because it takes in 47% of the sun's energy (heat) as it impacts the Earth's surface. WaterFurnace geothermal systems are able to draw from this free energy with an earth loop. This technology is then put to use to provide your home or office with central heating and cooling.

Geothermal Heating

In the heating cycle, a WaterFurnace geothermal heat pump utilizes the earth loop system to extract the heat from the ground. With delivery through a standard duct system, the geothermal system draws heat from the loops and circulates it as warm air. Other choices are available to use that same heat energy to provide hot water heating and radiant floor heat.

Geothermal Cooling

Cooling the air is just the reverse process used in the heating cycle. Warm air is pushed by the geothermal heat pump into the ground. By removing the warm air, all that is left is cool air dispersing throughout your home. Heating your water during this process is "free".
